turn eco-anxiety into eco-anticipation

Jurdy Earth

Green Green Green. This word is so prevalent in households and businesses around the world that it’s already starting to fall on deaf ears. Or is it?

Green used to mean spring was coming, golf was being played, money was in the air. Now it’s been thrown against every corporate wall where executives pray something will stick that makes them compliant with regulatory governance that’s lingering in your carbon filled air.

This isn’t unlike the computer age where you had the words bytes, hard drive and PC shoved down your throats as the race was on to bring you all into the digital age. Now replace those with carbon, solar and recycle. So isn’t green all too familiar. The difference is, green has a tighter timeline because of the state of the planet. Essentially, there’s much more at risk here called “your future existence”.

So don’t put your head in the sand or make it look like you’re doing more than you are. You aren’t fooling anyone, particularly the universe. Instead of shutting down, shut off the water. Instead of writing this green thing off, write down what you think you can do and start there. Everyone is different and so will be their ability to contribute to saving the planet. But with encouragement, fun and anticipation thrown into the green mission mix, there will be more willingness, motivation and collaboration than ever before. Focus brings intensity to finding solutions, but fun brings the inspiration needed to sustain long term involvement and drive.

Stop being anxious about green and anticipate green. The green side is not the dark side. Find your own way of making it fun, collaborative and non-threatening. And to those of you who are leading and paving the eco friendly path to the green side…use motivation as a tool and throw in a dose of comic relief. It’s not that green is funny, but rather that humanity is much more motivated by something they can find the positive in… and feel positive about.
