Employers Leverage Employee Innovation to Battle Economic Woes

Jurdy Character Provides Motivation and Comic Relief in the Workplace

Wilmington, Delaware, October, 2008 – As companies face one of the most depressed economic climates since 1927, daily news trumpets employee cutbacks and corporate budget trimming to meet the challenges. Employers are scrambling for innovative ways to keep employees motivated by leveraging their human assets’ knowledge, skill and experience to reduce costs, improve morale and sustain customer relationships.

Enter Jurdy™, the alter-ego of Wilmington-born cartoonist, Jenifer Jurden who has given businesses an innovative employee communications solution. Move over Dilbert, there’s a new kid in town…or in the office…and it’s this sassy green, gender neutral cartoon character. Jurdy puts a positive spin on workplace woes, shoring up the “we’re all in this together” office cultural alliance and producing bottom line results for businesses looking for a leg up in tough times.

Created by Jenifer Jurden, a veteran advertising executive turned cartoonist, Jurdy provides comic relief and a spokes-being persona for companies to utilize in their employee communications programs. Jurdy toons have started popping up in corporate-wide intranets, E-newsletters, workplace greeting cards, posters and “way to go” e-mail messages.

“Jurdy is a compassionate, human-loving character with a friendly, wise and witty sarcasm about work,” says Jurden of her green character. “And Jurdy really gets what it’s like to be overworked, overwhelmed and a little dismayed when the workplace gets frantic, creating that all too common tension and stress.” Jurden created Jurdy to motivate her own stressed-out production team at work when the office got frenzied, and quickly saw Jurdy’s ability to improve employee communications.

“We’ve received over 500 ideas in less than 60 days,” says Jurdy supporter and HR Director for a long-standing financial institution with a highly successful customer service track record. Its employee innovation team met with Jurden to define ways to encourage employee participation in the bank’s operational revenue generating and cost-cutting measures, and wound up with a wildly successful Jurdy idea generation program.

“Now we’ve assigned a manager to the Jurdy program,” the HR Director adds, “and we can already see how the idea generation campaign easily pays for itself and goes straight to our bottom line. All because our employees have found both an ally and colleague in Jurdy.”

To kick off the corporate Jurdy programs, Jurden published Jurdy’s “…but why should I hire a human?”, a pithy book for the corporate masses on how to get workplace results that are “out of this world.”

And while Jurden is thrilled to see Jurdy hit the intranets and cubicles of businesses worldwide, she’s also quick to point out that Jurdy wears a few other hats in the ‘toon world. “We’re on a number of green web sites such as greenbang.com
and ecostreet..com” she says as she whips out her environmentally correct shopping bag which has Jurdy touting,
“That’s right. I’m green. Got a problem with that?”

Additionally, Jurden was featured Cartoonist of the Week on the international cartoonworld.org and featured Female Entrepreneur of the Week on divatoolbox.com. Jurdy has also become an ally to the autism community and publishes a fun, educational weekly e-newsletter for international distribution to subscribers and has a link on the website of Autism Speaks, the largest autism foundation in the world.
